As a resident of Williamsburg since 2008 and passionate follower of women’s fashion, Brittany recognized the need for a local shoe boutique that would offer styles not available at chain stores in the area. So, based on her experience as a consumer and sales manager of women’s fashion, Brittany founded The Shoe Attic at the corner of Prince George and North Boundary in 2012. She capitalized on her knowledge of social media, and participated in numerous local events to grow a dedicated following of local professionals, William and Mary students, and visitors. Through the personal interaction between customer and owner that can occur only in a boutique setting, it was quickly learned that the customer for shoes often came with the need for a complete “outfit.” In response, Brittany greatly expanded her offerings of clothing and accessories, including both high fashion and classic styles. As the business grew, the need for more space and greater exposure became apparent.
To better serve her customers with knowledge of local businesses, Brittany made it a point to become acquainted with merchants and officials in the neighborhood. When a larger space became available in Merchants Square in late 2016, the priority for a new tenant was “local and quirky.” Because of her interaction with the community, The Shoe Attic was recognized as an obvious fit, and the move quickly negotiated. Brittany continues to support the community as Treasurer of the Merchants Square Association.
As a nationally ranked Show Choir member in High School, and George Mason University graduate in Theatre, Brittany is no stranger to performance in public, and looks forward to the challenge of Williamsburg Dancing with the Stars.
