Born and raised in the mountains of Transylvania, the northern part of Romania, Felix Vlad moved to the United States in 1994. Two years later, he made his forever home in Williamsburg. There, he got his start working in various food and beverage positions at Williamsburg Lodge, Kingsmill Resort and Fords Colony. Growing up in a wine makers family, he had an avid love for wines since childhood, which led him to become a sommelier by trade, and in 2001 he opened a wine import business. In 2006 Felix became part owner and manager of Alize Bistro in Williamsburg that operated until 2012.
At that point he felt it was time to change careers and went back to another childhood love — big trucks! In 2012, Felix bought Steele’s Towing, where he remains as owner to this day.
Other lifelong passions that continue to be a big part of his life are karate and fitness. Felix began practicing karate at the age of 14 and become part of the Shorin Ryu Karate School over 20 years ago. He can still be found teaching and training there to this day. He also spends a lot of time between the James City County Recreation Center, where he teaches Zumba, aqua, strength training, and various other fitness classes, or teaching/practicing yoga at Studio South.
Felix wears many hats — first responder, fitness instructor, sensei, sommelier— but among the things he enjoys most is cooking for good friends, paddle-boarding, rides on his motorcycle, hiking and, of course, dancing.
