Henry R. Broaddus is vice president for strategic initiatives and public affairs at William & Mary, where he gets to do creative things with smart people. Previously he served as dean of admission and associate provost for enrollment, and he signed admission letters for ten successive classes of students enrolling at William & Mary from 2005 through 2014. Henry graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College with departmental high honors in English literature and creative writing, and his lowbrow contributions to the literary canon include a line published in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest Book.
Outside of higher education he has worked on multiple campaigns pertaining to environmental issues. He was a gubernatorial appointee to the Virginia Scenic Rivers Advisory Board for nine years and a board member of the Virginia Conservation Network for twelve. Recent efforts have been focused on accelerating the expansion of solar energy.
Henry’s wife, Alison, is a board member for the Institute for Dance, where their seven-year-old daughter, Bailey, takes dance lessons. Along with her four-year-old brother, Walt, the two look forward to helping their dad learn his own moves.
