Sherron Wares is a native of the region. She was born and raised at Fort Eustis Army Post where her father was active duty military for 24 years. The Virginia Peninsula has always been her home. She worked in the Williamsburg health care arena for over 40 years and recently retired in 2021. Her career took her from Williamsburg Community Hospital to the inception of both Doctors’ Surgery Center and Riverside Doctors’ Hospital. She assisted Avalon Center during its first years of start-up. She has been a Board Member of a spiritual retreat center for ten years. She has supported and volunteered on both United Way and Operation Smile Committees. She had the distinct privilege of serving on an Op Smile mission to Peru, which was a heartwarming and most meaningful experience that changed the lives of over 150 children. She opened her home for two years to teens facing struggles and life challenges. Partnering with area physicians, she has been administering the Williamsburg-James City County Medical Society for the past two decades. Sherron has been a fan and supporter of Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars since its inception when her late husband danced in the first flight of Dancing with the Stars at Phi Beta Kappa 13 years ago representing William and Mary Alumni.
